Reminiscences and writings of Hugh Pritchard, a Welsh immigrant, who brought his family to Racine (Wis.) in 1842. Although not a minister, Pritchard was deeply religious and his journals reflect this, consisting largely of his sermons, poems, and reflections on contemporary events. Also included are news clippings regarding the assassination of President McKinley and Pritchard's comments on that event, as well as a biographical sketch of Pritchard and an index to the journals.

President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand.
